Director’s Note:
Directed for Arc’teryx China’s International Women’s Day campaign, this film is part of a diptych capturing the essence of the global ethos, “Tune In, Out There.” Traveling from the freezing altitudes of Chamonix to the 30°C heat of Krabi, we documented the story of Meini Li, a radiant 16-year-old rock climber.
Off the wall, Meini is a typical teenager; on the rock, her world shrinks entirely to her holds. Filming her on a grueling 8c+ route, I witnessed a profound moment of vulnerability and strength. Bravery, as captured in this piece, isn’t about the absence of tears—it’s about letting emotions flow like water. She didn’t fight the rock; she tuned in, found her rhythm, and danced with the stone. Returning to Krabi, where she first climbed outdoors at age five, brought the narrative full circle, capturing the magic of a young girl growing her wings.
